The scientists should invent a time machine. Not the time travel types. That, I think would be pretty useless, because if you can't change your own past/future, what on earth would you do with the time machine? Travel to the future and find out if HYMYM ever ends? I don't think so.
What I'm talking about is a time compressor/decompressor. You could even call it the Vortex, just to make it sound cooler. How this machine basically works is, it compresses or decompresses time. Obviously! See, when you're getting bored, or going through a bad time, or sitting in the classroom, you press the Compress button, then enter the number of minutes you want to compress, then press Confirm. You will be fast-forwarded that many minutes into the future, and your Vortex will store the minutes that you've saved here.
Now comes the good part. Ever have times which you don't want to come to an end? Like your last ride on the roller coaster, or an amazing date? At such a time, you pull out your Vortex, press Decompress and when the display tells you how many stored minutes you have, you can decide how much of that time you want to use. (Also, if more than one person is involved in the extra time, it gets divided.) Press Confirm, and there you go! Enjoy the B-E-A-utiful (You have seen Bruce Almighty, haven't you?) times as long as you want. *sigh*
I will not argue with you about how many glitches there are in this theory, because I'd fully agree with you when you point them out to me. Like what happens to the rest of the world when you fast-forward yourself, and if you give some of your stored time to another person, doesn't he age during that time? These are problems that the scientists are supposed to solve - if I could do that, wouldn't I be one myself?
Also, I've just realised that a part of this thought sounds like it's inspired from In Time, but seriously, it's not. It just came into my mind during Journalism exam, when I wasted half my time sleeping, and then couldn't finish the paper. Not that if I'd had had the Vortex, I'd have used some of the stored time. No sir! I'd save days and months for awesomer stuff like Doctor Who marathons =D

I really love the way your mind works! And since I would love this phenomenon to take place too.....I shall try and make both our dreams come true!
